Members of the SLOMRA present Rod Stewart with a Custom Boxcar!
Michael Mickens, Jim Keating, Rod Stewart, Christina Keating, Chuck Ellison, and Sharon Ellison.
AS SEEN IN THE DECEMBER 2008 ISSUE OF MODEL RAILROADER MAGAZINE: SLOMRA members Michael Mickens, Dennis Pearson, Jim Keating, and Chuck Ellison created a "R. Stewart Lines" boxcar from the period Rod Stewart models, featuring the logo's of the SLOMRA on one side and the Mid State Fair on the other. The road number of the boxcar being the date of the concert, and a tag line references his 1990 #1 hit song "Downtown Train". This project was completed in two months after receiving permission to present the boxcar backstage to Rod before his Mid-State Fair concert in Paso Robles on July 30th. Rod was very pleased with the gift!
As Mr. Stewart is an avid model railroader himself, his beautiful model railroad the Three Rivers City, was featured in the Dec. 2007 Model Railroader magazine (most successful issue to date), and Rod stated that "being on the cover of Model Railroader magazine was a bigger thrill than being on the cover of Rolling Stone!"
